HISTORICAL REVIEW:
The German Shepherd Dog(Deutscher Schäferhund) belongs to German herding groups. In the 1800s a German trooper officer ‘Captain Max von Stephanitz’ aimed to developed German herder. He and his peers crossed various stress from the northern and central districts of Germany which results in the ancestors of today's German Shepherd Dog. Captain Max started the worlds first GSD Club. He spent 35 years refining the breed.
GSD’s became popular in the U.S in the early 1900s. It was due to the canine movie ‘Stars Rin-Tin-Tin and Strongheart’. In WW-I, Britishers called German Shepherd ‘Alsation’ which is being used today as well by many English dog lovers.
In terms of coat color, there are 5 different types of German Shepherds i.e, Saddle, Black, Sable, Panda, and White German Shepherd. The color of German Shepherd is usually black and tan. It’s rarest color is liver(solid brown). Its height is 24–26 inches in males and 22–24 inches in females. Its weight is 65–90 pounds in males and 50–70 pounds in females. Its life expectancy is 7–10 years.
German Shepherd is a gentle family pet. They are good with children and they live friendly with other dogs as well. They are eager to please. German Shepherd needs weekly brushing.
