Our world is full of wonders. There are many amazing cities on earth. But, here is the weirdest city of the world. Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan. It is famous for its white marble high rise buildings and monuments. Turkmenistan is located in Central Asia being surrounded by the Caspian Sea and the Karakum Desert covers the country vastly. It is a landlocked country that shares a border with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and, Afghanistan. It is a post-soviet country. Here are the facts that make Ashgabat the strangest city on this planet.

Less than 10,000 tourists visit this city which ranks Turkmenistan as the 7th least visited country of the world. Turkmenistan’s visa is not so easy to get. Trips should be completely organized to get the visa. Turkmenistan is a wealthy country in the region. As they have the 4th biggest gas reserve of the world. Turkmenistan is a Muslim country. Ashgabat is a wonder to tourists. It is well white-marble constructed. About 80% of all the buildings are white. Authorities love white color and they’ve made a white kingdom in a hot desert. Between 12 sq miles, 1000 buildings are present. More than 5 million cubic meters of imported while marble makes the city shines like a big star. Ashgabat has the Guinness World Record for using the most marble. There are manicured gardens, carpeted roads, sight-seeing fountains, and perfectly made statues. Turkmenistan’s media shows the city extraordinarily.

But, the weird fact is that this white city is a ghost town. It is almost-empty. No one’s on the road during the day. Only workers and soldiers can be seen during the daytime. People of Ashgabat have friendly and curious nature. Life of Ashgabat is really simple. Around 1 % of Turkmenistan’s 6 million residents have the internet facility. More than 90% of citizens are government employees. Former dictator Saparmurat Niyazov ruled the country on his own will. He renamed the names of months on his family members. He prohibited circuses and opera… He hated noisy activities. He encouraged white cars on the roads. He promoted white things. He ordered to ban pets because he didn’t like the smell. His influence made society in its weirdest form. It is a very puzzling and fascinating city. You can’t take a photo of white buildings. But, things change just because of the nature of the dictator. Turkmenistan will be an adventure place if you like to discover new cultures.
