Brave, fearless and patriotic son of this land, Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada Former Home Minister of Punjab was martyred in a suicide attack on August 15, 2015. On February 17, 2015, a suicide attack on the Qila Gujar Singh police lines in Lahore killed eight people, including a police officer, and injured 27. The target of the suicide bomber was the Qila Gujarsingh police line but he hurriedly blew himself up outside the gate of the police line. At the time of the blast, Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada was sitting in his office at the Shaheed Civil Secretariat.

Upon receiving the information, Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada said let’s go to the site of the blast, he was instructed to stop for a while. He was on the terrorist hit list. One of his colleagues said: “You may also be attacked there.” then Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada said, “Friend, life is in the hands of God.” I cannot leave my people and the police alone like this. What will happen will be seen. Arriving at Qila Gujar Singh, he once again challenged the terrorists and conveyed the message through the media that the terrorists would be pursued to the utmost. The role of the Punjab Police and especially its sub-wing CTD is unparalleled in the way in which the Pakistan Army, Rangers and other military and civilian agencies have made everlasting sacrifices for the eradication of terrorists and terrorism in Pakistan. According to the latest reports, a notorious terrorist Niaz alias Zeeshan son of Banaras Khan, a resident of Hazro District, Attock, was shot dead by his colleague Qari Sohail in a confrontation with CTD Rawalpindi. Both terrorists belong to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Niaz alias Zeeshan was the terrorist who was the mastermind and facilitator of the suicide attack on Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada Shaheed. The terrorist had killed more than two dozen civilians, including an intelligence bureau officer.

From December 2014 to January 2021, 51 Punjab Police officers, including the Punjab Home Minister, were martyred. 325 terrorists were killed while 2,000 terrorists were arrested. Out of the terrorists caught by the Counter-Terrorism Department Punjab (CTD), 70% were convicted while there was no incident of sectarian terrorism in the last four years. Local terrorist organizations have been completely wiped out. These are undoubtedly great achievements for which the Punjab Police and especially the CTD deserve congratulations. Apart from eradicating terrorism, Punjab Police has also rendered many services which have directly or indirectly benefited the people. Under the leadership of IG Punjab Inam Ghani, not only operations were carried out against the occupation mafias across the province, but they were also brought to justice by adopting a zero-tolerance policy. Not only were the possessions confiscated, but hundreds of cases were registered against the occupation mafias and their backers. More than 132.75 billion government and private lands were relinquished in Punjab. The performance of Lahore Police was number one in the province which in collaboration with the concerned departments returned assets worth Rs. 47 billion to the citizens in the last three months. Additional IG and CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mehmood Dogar are credited with relinquishing properties from influential Lahore occupation groups and illegal encroachers. He pledged to eradicate the Kalashnikov culture.

This is the first time in Punjab that such effective actions have been taken against the people and influential people occupying government properties and lands for a long time. The victims had no recourse against influential occupation groups. The rogue elements took advantage of the compulsions of the poor and honorable citizens at the behest of illegal arms and used illegal tactics to seize lands and properties bought from their life savings. An anti-occupation mafia cell and a special helpline 1242 comprising of Police Department, Revenue, LDA, Overseas Pakistanis Commission and Cooperatives Department have been set up at Capital City Police Headquarters Lahore on which citizens are lodging complaints regarding land grabs. It is difficult to get 100% result and success of any difficult task anywhere in the world but hopefully, Ghulam Mahmood Dogar will get congratulations for achieving success. Well done Punjab Police!
